Emergency Road Closure Chilham *update*

KCC has advised of an emergency Road Closure on Canterbury Road at Chilham.

It will be necessary to close Ashford Road, Chilham from 23rd October 2024 for up to 10 days.

The road will be closed in its entirety.

The alternative route is via: A28 Ashford Road, A252 Canterbury Road, A252 Maidstone Road, A251 Buck Street, A251 Faversham Road, A2042 Faversham Road and A28 Canterbury Road. and vice versa.

This is to enable emergency gas escape works to be carried out by SGN

Currently, according to the mapping it is the section nearest to the junction with the A252.

Stour Valley Game/ Chilham Feeds at East Stour Feeds is still accessible from the Ashford direction.

Update from SGN (gas company) dated Wednesday 23 October

We're carrying out urgent repairs to our gas main in the A28 Ashford Road in Chilham.

Our work is next to a steep wet bank which has made the ground unstable. To work safely, we've had to install a special trench support and had to temporarily close the road around our work area for everyone's safety. A signed diversion is in place.

We may also need to arrange for a gas pressure reduction before we can begin our repairs, which will require a special repair fitting to be made, transported to site and installed. This means there may be times when there will be no engineers visible on site - regular monitoring of gas levels will be taking place.

Bus services may be affected - please check with your local provider.

We estimate the road will need to remain temporarily closed until at least Friday 1 November.
