Budget
The Parish Council sets a budget every December for the following financial year (running 1 April - 31 March). This in turn informs how much total precept (amount) the Parish Council needs to ask for (paid as part of council tax). As well as the estimated cost of running services and projects, Parish Councils must have reserves for running costs and can allocate reserves for other reasons (for example if an election to the Parish Council is called outside of the four yearly cycle, the Parish Council will have to pay the costs of running the election).
Between 2016 & 2023, there was no increase in the overall precept as the Parish Council used reserves to help fund its work whilst not increasing the precept. Requirements on & demands of Parish Councils however have increased, along with usual inflationary increases and prior to 2023 there were additional Borough Council Grants that are no longer available.
The Parish Council should soon be presented with the final design for the 20mph scheme from KCC, This will be funded by the Parish Council and we are starting to allocate money towards future improvement schemes.
There is more information about the budget and decision on the Parish Council Minutes & Agendas page (December 2023)
